March Massacre On Big Fish Charters

Capt. Tom’s Report – March 31, 2001

The end of winter signals the beginning of great cod fishing on "Stellwagen Bank" and this March was no exception. Bent rods, with many doubles, was the order of the day on every trip. There was plenty of cod, pollack and wolffish on all of our Ocean Fishing Trips this month to produce sore arms and full coolers at the end of each charter. The cod caught this March were much larger than usual. Many of the fish were in the 20 lb. range and some were over 30 lbs!

Awesome April on Big Fish Charters

Capt. Tom's Report - April 30, 2001

Huge schools of cod, pollack, haddock and wolffish, sometimes 20-30 feet thick from the bottom up, have been pleasing our sportfishing charter customers. Cod up to 42 lbs. were taken this month with lots of 20 and 30 lb. fish also. Giant pollack in the 30 lb. range were common and some wolffish went almost 40 lbs. Constant action and big fish add up to lots of fun and freezers full of great eating white-meat fillets.

Magnificent May on Big Fish Charters

Capt. Tom's Report - May 31, 2001

Great weather and spectacular Cod Fishing were a great combination for this May. Our fishing charters were thrilled with all the big cod, giant pollack and huge wolffish they caught as well as many haddock which increased significantly. This month most haddock were 10-15 lb. with occasional bigger ones. Some keeper striped bass have arrived but the major bit should begin in a week or two.

June On Big Fish Charters

Capt. Tom’s Report – June 30, 2001

Huge striped bass (20 lbs. to 50 lbs.) invaded Massachusetts Bay and Cape Cod Bay early this month to please our customers to the max. Most of these fish were caught off Provincetown, part of Cape Cod. Enormous schools of bluefish also escorted the bass to our waters.

Cod fishing continued excellent and the first giant bluefin tuna of the year were sighted by the end of the month. Look to July for a good tuna bite to begin.

July on Big Fish Charters

Capt. Tom's Report - July 31, 2001

The month of July brought much variety to Stellwagen Bank and Cape Cod Bay. Besides the spectacular cod fishing which continued, giant bluefin tuna, sharks of several varieties, school tuna, striped bass and bluefish all began to bite. Great weather and super fishing was a welcome combination to our customers

August on Big Fish Charters

Capt. Tom's Report - August 31, 2001

August produces our hottest temperatures of the year and the fishing was also red hot. Big Fish Charters took giant tuna in the 700-800 lb. range and big shark 100-200 lbs and bigger were common. Cod fishing continued excellent with some fish in the 30 to 50 lb range. Stripers and bluefish continued to bite all along the Cape Cod Coastline. Many of our trips were 1/2 and 1/2 combination trips bringing in mixed bags of tuna and cod or shark and striped bass.

September on Big Fish Charters

Capt. Tom's Report - September 30, 2001

The hint of cooler temperatures of fall ignites our game fish to a feeding frenzy to fatten them up for the long migration later in November. Both giant and school tuna were taken on our off shore trips as well as Mako and Blue sharks. Some of the largest cod and pollack of this year were taken this month on our cod trips and haddock were very common. Striped bass and bluefish cooperated readily with some of the best catches of the year.

October on Big Fish Charters

Capt. Tom's Report - October 31, 2001

October has historically produced the largest cod and pollock of the season and this year was no exception. Hugd cod and record class giant pollack were taken by many of our customers looking to fill their freezers for the long winter ahead.

October is also a top producer for tuna and shark trips. Many of our charter trips were combination trips bringing in mixed bags of both tuna and cod or shark and cod.
