Deep Sea Fishing in Cape Cod

2006 Ocean Fishing Reports

March/April 2006

Cold weather means “hot” Cape Cod fishing, especially on Stellwagen Bank. Fast action cod fishing with lots of doubles makes it easy to fill your freezer with lots of great eating white-meat fillets. Most cod were 8-20 lbs with some bigger fish. Experience thrills aboard a charter from Big Fish Charters! Most trips tallied a mixed bag with plenty of haddock, wolffish, pollack and occasionally monkfish. The waters are cold, yet the fishing is hot!

May 2006

Experience spectacular deep sea fishing in Cape Cod waters. Fishing charters are our specialty! Sign up for a trip of a lifetime with Big Fish Charters. This month we witnessed massive schools of sand eels, mackerel and herring surrounding the waters of Stellwagen Bank. Cod fishing is at its prime this month! Catches of  big cod fish weighing 10-20 lbs and larger, rules the majority of the catches. Plenty of haddock, pollack, wolffish and cusk were also taken. More haddock were taken than earlier in the season and some giant pollack ranging between 15-30 lbs also favored some of our anglers.

June 2006

Warm June days brought the first striped bass and bluefish of the season to the waters located off of Provincetown, Cape Cod. Stellwagen Bank is alive with cod this month and some fish between 20, 30 and 40 lbs (some larger)  began to show up. Haddock catches also began to improve with most fish 7 to 15 lbs. Most cod and haddock trips also had their share of wolffish, monkfish and cusk. Most striped bass ranged between 15-20 lbs, with some bass catches weighing over 35 lbs. Striped bass fishing has never been better! Big Fish Charters is the  way to go when fishing for bass, cod or haddock. Jump aboard and see the difference!

July 2006

By the middle of July, all major species of game fish are present in our area. The warm waters are stocked with blue fin tuna, striped bass, haddock, cod fish and many other types of species awaiting our lines. The first giant blue fin tuna (ranging from 500 lbs to over 1,100 lbs) was caught this month as well. July proved to be a prosperous month for school tuna fishing as well. Our school tuna ranged between 50 lbs and 250 lbs. Mako shark, Porbeagle shark, Thresher shark and blue sharks also begin to bite as the waters warm up. Typically, the biggest cod of the season are caught on Stellwagen Bank during July, August and September. Striped bass and  bluefish also cooperated well during July. See for yourself why tuna fishing charters from Big Fish Charters are above the rest.

August 2006

Experience deep sea fishing in Cape Cod during August. While on our fishing charters, we caught several giant blue fin tuna ranging between 700 lbs and 900 lbs, and also had great catches of school tuna weighing in around 50 lbs  to 250 lbs. Our cod fishing and haddock fishing trips have been fantastic this month. Bass fishing was also prosperous in August. We caught striped bass over 30 lbs and shark fishing also pleased most customers. Most sharks were blue sharks but some Mako, Porbeagle and Thresher sharks were taken. Sharks ranged from 100 lbs to near 500 lbs.

September 2006

We experienced some of the best weather yet in the month of September. The warm breezes and cool waters contributed to an overflow of fish eager to bite this month. Both giant blue fin tuna and school tuna fishing was fantastic! We saw giant bluefin tuna weighing in over 100 lbs and 90% of our school tuna charters scored with fish ranging between 50 lbs to 200 lbs and larger! In addition, we also caught cod over 50 lbs and our customers went home with coolers filled with great eating haddock fillets. Most striped bass trips ended up with limits of bass to 35 lbs and shark fishing was fantastic with sharks weighing almost 400 lbs. September proved to be a very exciting month for deep sea fishing in Cape Cod waters. Other fishing charters on the Cape cannot compare to an experience you'll have aboard Big Fish Charters!

October 2006

Shorter days and cooler temperatures triggered a feeding frenzy among most species of fish in the waters off of Stellwagen Bank in Cape Cod. One of the reasons for the extensive feeding was due to the fact that many of the migrating species are trying to fatten up for the long journey ahead into warmer waters. Due to this influx of feeding fish, October has always been a great month for our tuna fishing charters. Most years we have great luck catching both giant tuna and school tuna. Along with prosperous tuna fishing, October is also one of the best months for catching sharks usually east of Stellwagen Bank. We had great luck fishing for haddock, wolffish, monkfish, pollack and striped bass. Cod were caught over 50 lbs as well. This month shaped up to be excellent for our Cape Cod fishing charters.

November 2006

November is our best month for haddock fishing. Due to our spectacular month of haddock fishing, we were able to offer several "haddock specials" and plenty of wolffish, pollack and cusk were also biting during November. Our tuna fishing charters were also quite victorious, catching both school tuna and giant tuna fish. The 2006 fishing year certainly was exciting!
